Clubs

Leisure Books & Leserskring are the market leaders in Africa in the field of direct marketing of books, music, DVDs and related products – and have been doing it successfully for more than 25 years! These businesses are unique in that they use a concept established by Bertelsmann, the leading German publisher. In terms of an agreement between these two companies, their international experience is available for use in the South African Clubs.

The club model is based on free membership whereafter members agree to remain in the Club for at least 2 years. Members receive a full-colour main catalogue every quarter from which they have to buy at least one book. Besides their club commitment in respect of books, they also have an opportunity to order CDs, videos & DVDs and other products from additional catalogues like MultiCat.

Some facts and figures...

• Leisure Books and Leserskring were launched in 1980. After 25 years, over 450 of the founder members were still active customers.
• The Clubs' joint membership remains around 200 000.
• Annually over one million books are sold by the Clubs.
